Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford has been an American actor, dancer and singer since the early 1990s. Her first Broadway performances, she starred the role of Essie Carmichael in Wicked Legally Blonde Hair. For her role as Essie as Essie in You Can't Take It With You she won the Tony Award. Tony Award-winning actor Annaleigh Ashford has spent her career working alongside renowned actors and directors across stage film and television and she is continuing her award-winning work with several upcoming projects. Ashford will next be seen in the role of Kumail Nanjiani as part of the Hulu limited series Welcome to Chippendales from creator Robert Siegel premiering on November 22. Ashford's current project includes the Searchlight Pictures horror thriller Dust which he is starring in with Sarah Paulson and Ebonmoss-Bachrach. It will also be available as an Hulu Original on Disney DTC. Ashford will be returning in 2023, and will play opposite Josh Groban at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre to perform the revival of Stephensondheim's Sweeney Todd. Thomas Kail, director and producer of Hamilton will direct the production. Ashford played Paula Jones, the main actor in Ryan Murphy's upcoming FX program American Crime Story Impeachment. The series is based on the impeachment crisis that swept Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky Linda Tripp and other principal characters in the first impeachment trial in the United States in more than 100 years. Ashford was the main character in two seasons on CBS Comedy B Positive. The show was written by Marco Pennette, Chuck Lorre and Linda Lavin. The show also included Ben Vereen as well as Hector Elizondo. Sunday in the Park with George Wicked legally blonde and the originating part of Lauren of Kinky Boots were among her other Broadway credits. Her birthplace and childhood was in Denver Ashford currently splits the time in Los Angeles and New York.
